An In-Home Boudoir Session ~ Madison, WI

What is your age? 31

What do you do for a living? Office Manager

What made you decide to book a boudoir shoot?
I wanted to do something special and unique for my husband.

How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?
Jolene made me feel so comfortable and got me to relax a bit. She definitely got me out of my comfort zone.

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc..)
Image reveal was mind blowing, never expected to feel so emotional towards pictures of myself. I’m just hoping my husband loves them at much as I do.

Did you have any fears going into your session?
I was nervous and excited of the unknown. I showed up with some skimpy and meaningful garments/outfits with dirty hair and a freshly washed face. The shoot was weighing heavily on my mind for the weeks leading up. I eliminated sodium for 5 days before the shoot and cut my calories in half. I was warmly greeted and immediately put at ease chatting with Jolene. The Stylist arrived and took over from my neck up - it was easy breezy. In no time I looked photo ready and better then I had in years. The makeup job was seriously perfection! She left and I got into my hubs favorite t-shirt and click click and we were chatting and posing and laughing

.How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)?
I didn't expect to enjoy the experience of having my picture taken, but it was private, comfortable and empowering. Occasionally I felt pretty, others cute, sometimes sexy and sassy. I never felt fat, too short, too this insecurity or that one...this was shocking. Very quickly I settled into, "so this is what I look like"...let's work with it...let's love it...let's photograph it. I have kept this feeling ever since the session! This feeling, this mentality is what I -absolutely cannot get over or express enough- what a gift this has been to me. This session has provided me with a new found love and appreciation for my body, every angle, every spot, every curve and even bulge. It's a beautiful gift to myself that affects the loves in my life as well. It's an indescribable gift to my husband but my son and daughter have and will benefit too. They are living with a newly and deeply body-confident mama.

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc..)
Giving the images. I slowly rolled them out to my hubs. I gave him one in a text...then showed him one on my phone a couple days later...then I emailed him one with a flirty note. Finally, i gave him the book at home, after a fancy dinner out. It was ...

I also loved getting to know Jolene over the course of the day and our time together. I left feeling like I want to be friends with her and hang out longer! I don't have that feeling with people very often...I have a suspicion that a lot of people feel that way with Jolene. She's warm, easygoing, expressive, passionate, fun, a deep thinker and just all around likeable! She loves what she does, she is an expert and it shows.

How has the response been to your images?

What is your advice for women interested in a boudoir experience?
It's a transformative experience. It's personal growth on levels I can't even describe. For me to feel genuinely joyful in my own skin at 43 years old (finally) is amazing, a gift onto itself. I would have never guessed a photoshoot like this one would do that for me. I think back on all the head-time I spent obsessing about my body and it's "flaws", what I would change and how I could change it, I cringe. Had I known this experience -a boudoir photoshoot- would do this for me I would have done it years ago. Seriously.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the price tag. YES, I totally understand your sticker shock. The price tag is steep. It was extremely difficult for me too. How can I rationalize spending this kind of cash on MYSELF? I lamented it and at the same time had some amazing encouragement from a couple friends and my husband. I can now say -beyond a doubt- it was worth it! 100% worth it. You will only be YOU - now! You can always make money... & Jolene is worth it. Totally!

Did you have any fears about your boudoir session? Of course! I have known Jolene since I was a little girl, but I was still a bit nervous for the shoot initially; although I was more excited than anything! Jolene helps to ease any fears you may have and honestly by the time I sat down for my first photo, all of those went right out the window.

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc...) ALL of it! I don't know that I have ever felt so good about myself before. The makeup/hair was wonderful, Christina is magic when it comes to bringing out your beauty and the shoot was amazing! Jolene does a wonderful job of making you feel comfortable (and beautiful) from the very first moment to the last. I think she was just as excited to reveal the images as I was to see them and I'm in absolute awe, my confidence is now through the roof!

How has the response been to your images? I've received nothing but positive feedback and love from the ladies so far!

What is your advice for women interested in such a session? If you are thinking about doing this for yourself or for someone special in your life and something is holding you back, just go for it! I promise you will have no regrets and Jolene brings out the very best in all of us through her beautiful art! I cannot thank her enough for the much needed boost of confidence and self love today!

Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a a result of the session? For sure! I have never felt so great about myself and Jolene made this so easy! Jolene helped to bring out my confidence and I found a spirit within myself I never knew I had; the shoot definitely came at the right time for me. I will most certainly be doing this again in the future!

13 Do's and Dont's For Your Bridal Boudoir Session

‘Tis the season for engagements! This time of year I usually start getting questions about booking a boudoir session as your groom’s gift. Personally, I can’t think of a better gift for your new husband!

Bridal boudoir isn’t anything new but it is definitely a trend that is on the rise so I have compiled a list of 13 do’s and don’ts for all of your lovely brides to help you as you prepare to select and book your boudoir photographer.

1. Do choose a photographer who specializes in boudoir.  Photographers who specialize in the art of boudoir are going to be comfortable with ALL body types and know how to pose you in your most flattered light.  Boudoir photographers are specialists with posing around your insecurities and making you feel comfortable.  They have chosen their niche because they love what a boudoir shoot does for women’s confidence.  They know it’s as much about an incredible experience as much as it is about incredible photos.

2. Do wear your wedding night lingerie for one of your outfits.  Or at least wear one outfit that is white.  Personally I’m not a fan of the veil being used in bridal boudoir photos.  I like images that are believable.  Most women don’t prance around their home in heels wearing their veil and a pair of undies.  Make your boudoir session “bridal” by wearing a white bodysuit, teddy or bra and panty set and of course make sure you have your engagement ring.

3. Do wear something of his.  A flannel or dress shirt, his favorite hat or that blanket in the living room with his favorite sports team on it are some ideas that will personalize your session and remind him that you were thinking about him when you choose your wardrobe.

4. Do think about the overall style of your wedding including your wedding colors when deciding on wardrobe.  I also love the idea of either having one of your outfits be one of your wedding colors or ask your photographer if they offer one of your colors as your boudoir album cover!

5. Do choose one outfit that’s a little bit outside of your comfort zone.  An outfit that’s perhaps a bit racier than you’d normally gravitate towards or even nude or implied nude are all options.  A reputable photographer will listen to you and understand your comfort level while at the same time give you a tiny nudge if needed to be sure you get everything you want out of your session.

6. Do remember that this is as much a gift for you as it is for him.   Planning a wedding can be stressful and a boudoir session is an opportunity to take a day off and indulge in all the girly things. Your session will be just what the doctor ordered while your family and friends are bombarding you with unsolicited wedding advice and you’re going crazy trying to figure out who should sit with who at the reception.

7. Do revel in your new found confidence.  There is nothing quite like a boudoir session to give you a little skip in your step!  It’s so rare that we have the opportunity to see ourselves from someone else’s perspective.  You will be shocked at how incredible you look.  A good boudoir photographer will highlight all your best angles and features which is something that you simply can’t do by looking in the mirror or taking selfies.

8. Don’t go the budget route.  Not all boudoir photographers are in the business of empowering women.  Let’s face it, some are creepy dudes doing it for cheap thrills.  Don’t let that guy take your photos.  There are plenty reputable photographers both male and female.  You’ll pay more for them but your pictures won’t end up on some obscure European escort website.  A reputable photographer will keep your photos private unless you give written permission.  As with most things….”you get what you pay for” holds especially true in the boudoir world.

9. Don’t wait until the last minute.  Generally speaking, allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks before your wedding for your shoot and album delivery.  Check with your photographer for their turn around time.  The best photographers often book up well in advance so it pays to start looking early and when you’ve found your perfect photographer, book her.

10. Don’t go to a tanning bed or spray tan.  I know it’s tempting to want to “get your tan on” prior to your shoot.  You will be showing lots of skin but take from me, fake tans tend to appear orange on camera.

11. Don’t give your album to your groom on the wedding day.  Your wedding day is going to fly by in a blur.  You don’t want to risk your album ending up in your father in law’s hands or left at the church.  My suggestion is to give it your groom after the rehearsal dinner the night before your wedding.  He’ll be able to take his time looking through it knowing he’s going to marry that amazing woman on those pages the next day.

12. Don’t spend your whole budget on lingerie. You can do an entire session with one cute piece of lingerie. Choose a “between the sheets” outfit and an off the shoulder t-shirt and undies and you’re set. I’d much rather see you invest in the photography than in the wardrobe.

13. Don’t worry!  If you’ve chosen a professional photographer who specializes in boudoir you’ll be in good hands.  Your new husband is going to likely be speechless and your session will document you and your beauty at this wonderful time of your life.  Just think…..what if right now you came across a boudoir album of your grandma from back in the day.  Wouldn’t you think to yourself “Dang!  My grandma was such a badass!”  That’s exactly right!  You are in a time of your life right now that is so special.  A boudoir session is going to be the BEST gift for your new husband but let’s face it…’s going to be an amazing gift to yourself too!

What is your age? 37

What do you do for a living? I am a RN and lactation consultant.

What made you decide to book a boudoir session? I first decided a few years ago when my body was bangin. I only had one kid and I had gotten my body to a point where I wanted it to be. A friend and I attempted to do some boudoir shoots for each other but we failed miserably. So I had been wanting to have a professional session since then. Well, fast forward 4 years and two more kids, and 50 pounds heavier, I wasn’t feeling good about my post baby body. I had two babies in 2 years and it really took its toll on my weight and abdomen muscles. Despite not being at my ideal weight, I decided to book with Jolene. I felt like she could capture my beauty and I’m trying this new thing where I’ve decided to love my body instead of wish it were different. I have grown 3 human beings with my body, pushed them out of my body and fed them with my body. And I’m damn proud of that. My body deserves hella love right now. It’s not broken nor does it need to be fixed in order for me to do this photo shoot.

Did you have any fears about your boudoir session? I actually didn’t. Lol! I’m not scared of too many things, I was just really excited.

How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)? Jolene had explained how it was going to go down pretty well so I felt really prepared for it. It was really fun and went super smooth.

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc...) The IMAGES!!! Oh my lawd, hello GODDESS!

How has the response been to your images? My husband loved them! But the shoot was really more for me, so his opinion was just a bonus ;)

What is your advice for women interested in such a session? Do it for yourself! Not for anyone else.

Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a a result of the session? I felt like the decision to book the session kind of forced me to be more respectful and loving of my precious physical being.

A Pretty Country Boudoir Session - Southern WI

My goal is always NATURAL.  To be honest, if you could be a fly on the wall during a session you would probably be surprised to see how much direction goes into making an image look like it's just happening naturally. I don't always succeed but it's ALWAYS the goal. The last thing I want is for your images to look fake, awkward or too posed. What I for sure want YOU to know is that it's not your job to act natural or know how to pose (or not pose).  It's mine and I will do my damndest to make you look your most natural, gorgeous self!

Boudoir Photography - Madison, WI

It's interesting.  Almost all of my client's have the same concerns and worries the day of their session.  In fact, I think I need to start writing them down.  For goodness sake.  If you wake up with a pimple on your butt it's okay!!  I've got you *uh'hem* covered.  If you ended up gaining 5 lbs. instead of losing 10 for your session, you're okay there too.  If you're stressed, unsure if you like your wardrobe choices or have a huge bruise on your's okay.  Come in, leave all that stuff behind and let my professional hair and makeup artist work her magic, listen to some relaxing music and let us pamper you.  You my dear, are in good hands.

What do you do for a living? Administrative Secretary

What made you decide to book a boudoir session? Post baby doubt had taken over. After several miscarriages and two children I didn't feel good about my body. I was depressed and had lost some of my confidence.

Did you have any fears about your boudoir session? I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get my cleavage to appear.

How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)? I was so happy I did it in my own home. I was very comfortable in my own house, I literally could walk around naked every day, so having the photographer enter my home and my most intimate places really felt much more comfortable than I ever imagined. It was just like I was being myself, goofing around half naked.

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc...) I loved that Jolene captured my personality in the photos. She really incorporated some important props in my photo without taking away from the focus (me). There were parts of myself also that I had never seen in such great lighting and with such poise. She really captured the beauty in me.

How has the response been to your images? They were completely uplifting. It feels so great to celebrate the journey my body has been on.

What is your advice for women interested in such a session? When I was decorating my room I cleared out absolutely everything. I didn't go buy new deco but looked around the house for three or four of my favorite pieces and plants and scattered them in corners of the room. Do NOT overthink your surroundings, because in the big picture your deco means NOTHING. If you do you will only stress yourself out for nothing. Jolene can make you look like your a queen no matter what you have in your space.

Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as  a result of the session?Absolutely! Being seen again as a sexy vixen instead of the person that cooks the morning bacon is just what I needed. We get so wrapped up in our responsibilities we sometimes forget to celebrate ourselves for a moment.

What do you do for a living? NICU nurse

What made you decide to book a boudoir session? My boyfriend was going off to Afghanistan for a year and I wanted to get him a great gift to take with him

Did you have any fears about your boudoir session? Yes. I had recently gained 10 pounds from stress and I thought I was going to look like a whale in the pictures but I didn't. Jolene made me feel so comfortable!! She is amazing with lighting and positions that I was my natural self and looked amazing!

How was the actual session different from what you expected (if at all)? I think it was what I expected. I have always wanted to do it but I didn't expect to be so nervous!!

What was your favorite part of the entire experience? (hair and makeup, the shoot, image reveal, giving the images etc...) Doing the shoot and the image reveal!! The shoot was the best part for me because I felt so sexy and my mind was taken off other things that were going on. But the image reveal was so much fun because I took my boyfriend with me to see them for the first time! We were both in awe and he actually picked pictures that I never would have thought I would.

How has the response been to your images? Everyone has loved them. I think I have shown half my coworkers :) and my boyfriend loves them over seas along with a few of his buddies that have seen his screen saver.

What is your advice for women interested in such a session? Have fun!! I was completely nervous in the beginning and you can kinda tell in the photos but once I started having fun with it the end result turned out even more amazing.

Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty as a result of the session? That others see me differently than myself. I hate my smile in pictures but come to find out most people love it.
